Flame moss is a unique and visually striking aquatic moss known for its vertical, spiraling growth that resembles dancing green flames. It adds dramatic vertical texture and is highly prized in creative aquascapes.
Appearance:
Flame moss grows in tight, upward spirals, giving it a flame-like appearance. Its dark green fronds curl as they grow, creating a dynamic, flowing shape that stands out among more horizontally growing mosses. It stays relatively compact but adds vertical height and movement to planted setups.
Aquarium Use:
This moss is best attached to driftwood, rocks, or vertical mesh to emphasize its upright growth. It is often used to create the illusion of underwater flames or small moss “trees.” It also provides hiding places for shrimp and fry while enhancing the visual flow of the aquascape.
Care Requirements:
Flame moss thrives in low to medium lighting and does not require COâÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ, though added COâ will support faster, healthier growth. Ideal temperature range is 20 to 28°C (68 to 82°F), with a preferred pH of 5.5 to 7.5. Growth is slow to moderate and maintains its shape well over time.
