Pilo Moss (Taxiphyllum sp. 'Pilo Moss')

Pilo moss is a rare and compact moss variety admired for its dense, cushion-like growth and deep green coloration. Its small, neat form makes it ideal for detail-focused aquascaping and nano tanks.

Appearance:

Pilo moss features very fine, tight fronds that grow in a rounded, cushion-like pattern. Its leaves are small and compact, giving it a velvety, bushy appearance. The moss tends to maintain a low profile, making it excellent for foregrounds or small feature placements.

Aquarium Use:

This moss is best attached to small stones, driftwood, or mesh for controlled placement. It’s commonly used in nano aquascapes or as an accent in larger tanks. Its dense form provides microhabitats for shrimp and small fish while adding subtle texture to a scape.

Care Requirements:

Pilo moss does well under low to medium lighting. COâ‚‚ is not required but will encourage denser, healthier growth. It prefers temperatures between 20 and 26°C (68 to 79°F) and a pH range of 5.5 to 7.5. Growth is slow and compact.

Additional Notes:

Because of its tight, bushy growth, Pilo moss requires minimal trimming to maintain its form. It attaches firmly over time and holds its shape well, making it ideal for aquascapes that prioritize detail and control. Its rarity and refined appearance make it a favorite among advanced aquascapers and collectors.
